Fishing warwickshire with colinSeptember 21 Oakham farm the return Hi All
Well had a return visit to Oakham yesterday and really enjoyed it, its one of those fisheries, that give you a real confidence boost , where you can bag up after a venue as knocked you back down to earth and i have been to a few of those.. Dont get me wrong , it too can have its funny moments ,i have seen anglers fail here, but very rarely.
I went with a couple of mates , john and wayne .
We did not arrive too early about 7. 15 am and was fishing by 8. I started deep at 3 sections and john , on the deep corner at 4 i think wayne was on the east bank fishing corn and macaroni cheese.
We were all catching steadily but as always here in the morning, the action was not hectic and wayne was struggling a bit on the corn, i do nott think the corn goes here .
John started to fish shallow and began to catch i followed suit, but still struggle with catapulting and holding the pole at the same time ( will i ever get it ? )
John was catching well now but i was not taking much notice . As the day wore on and it got warmer as usual the fish came into the near bank and i began to have some on the bread with a couple in the 6lb bracket . John was also having fish in the margin, sometimes inches from the bank and as he alternated from left to right was amassing a big weight. Wayne was also catching on the macaroni cheese but he was targeting the big guns and this was more difficuilt.
The time to pack up soon came around and time to weigh in. I had 70lb and john 91 lb , wayne i think, had 50 lb someting .
All in all a great day and to tell the truth i did not expect to weigh so much , credit to john he stormed it , well done for a first visit and i know he wants to come back and try the maggot.
Also earlier this month went to tunnel barn. It was the wet weekend and i nearly never got there, the roads were treacherous especially at earlswood were the stream had bust its bank , the fool i am i drove through , to say i cacked myself is a understatement, pheewwww.
August 24 snitterfield silver dreamsHad another day at snitterfield yesterday, it was not as good as two weeks ago, clear nights and cooler.
Started by feeding at 8 metres with groundbait, balling in 6 orange sized balls. While waiting for this swim to settle fished shallow at 4 metres for the roach but sport was slow, for me anyway.
John was baggin on the waggler , which shows, the fish were weary of the pole above their heads.
Anyway john ended up with 21 lb 1 oz of quality silvers and me 26lb 5oz which included 5 crucians all over 2lb and 5 bream to 3lb ,the rest roach.
August 23 a couple of fishing tripsNovember 13 I enjoy winter fishingHi all
Well had a few trips since my last entry , also joined a club , getting back into match fishing.
Been to arden fisheries a few times and weighed 110lb, 108lb and 40 lb of carp, all under a pound.
Have also targeted the silver pool , two trips have resulted in 14lb and 18lb , mostly skimmers . The best method for the silver pool is red maggot over small balls of groundbait fed with a small pole cup.
Now its getting colder i will cut back even more and not use groundbait, i will also scale down to a 1.8lb hooklength and size 20 hook.
Now for the matches. The first was at moorlands farm kidderminster, which i did not enjoy, to many rules. Here i weighed 14lb , 3 carp and 2.7lb of skimmers . 40 lb won. Next was larford match pool near stourport and really enjoyed this. I came 5th with 45lb of f1 carp. 70lb won .
I managed to win my section, so was pleased. The next match is on a river, i cannot wait , real fishing at last.
Also fished the kamikaze peg on the speciemen pool ( snag pit) and managed 4 carp lost 6. August 28 some more tripsHi All
Well been out a couple of times since last made an entry.Oakham farm where i had 86lb before a stom came and i packed away quick.
Been to trittiford a few times and done 29lb twice. Also had a trip to jubilee pools near ryton saturday, left poles at home a fished the method, where i managed a nice bag of bream38lb Also went to oakham again to teach a work mate .Paul packed up after a few hours so i got 3 hours in . Weighed 46lb that day, all on floating crust in the margin. August 04 first matchHi all
Well had a couple of trips since i last made a entry.
Been targeting trittiford mill pool across from my house .Never fancied it before , but a contest result changed my view. Decided to fish one of the opens here , a tuesday 3 hour match. Had a practice session the saturday before , weighed 23lb.
Well the match came around and i drew peg 2, the flier.Fished at 8 metres with pellet over groundbait but the wind played havoc with presentation. I came 4th, which i was pleased with and a weight of 14lb12oz. 50lb won the match.
I did ok since it was my first match in 17 yr, so i was happy.
Also had a day at oakham and weighed 86lb but preffered the trittiford weights as this was bream not easy carp.
Gaz also came he had 14lb on our trip, 17lb on his own but no bites in the match but it was windy up his peg. June 18 Target acheived, yeeeee...Well i have gone and done it
50lb at Snitterfield 34lb of Crucians on pole and pellet and a 16lb Grass carp
The carp was targeted early morn with flavoured crust left to float past a weed bed.
It took 40 mins to land and i donot know who was more exhausted, me or the fish ?.
I am so happy, it was such a high. Now i need a new challenge and i think i have it.
While at the reser i watched some gold coulered double figure ghost carp crusin. There are only a handful of these fish and i want one of them, so next warm day i will have a go at these beautiful fish. May 21 Snitterfield " blown away"Went to Snitters yesterday and was not confident of catching well. After a hard rain last night and blowing a gale today , these are never good conditions for this place, its a run off for the airfield and the sudden influx of cold water always kills it dead.
My fears were nearly confirmed when we arrived at 6.00 am and found the water level up by about a foot .
Fished peg 1, as the wind was blowing into this bank and started with a 4 ball grounbait attack at 8 metres, which i left to settle while i set up a 8 foot deep rig and a margin rig to fish about 3 foot from the bank. Caught a Crucian from the off on the 8 metre line and caught at a steady pace . The method for me is red pellet over black groundbait, this is giving me great success here. Presentation was hard as everynow and then a good gust would rip the pole from left to right and the waves were knocking the float everywhere.
Things were going well and decided to try the inside line and began to catch here as well , which i much prefered as it was not so much hard work in this wind and rain. I was on my way , so i thought, of my target weight here this year ,which is 50 lb. My record for here is 44 lb set in 2003. As i was thinking , i have not lost any fish yet, disaster i caught the bottom and on a light elastic its disaster. Snapped the elastic and had to go out on my other rig , in what was now a torrential rain fall and gusting hard.
Fed some more groundbait through a pole cup and concentrated hard on the float jumping and dancing in the wind. Had a bite and hooked into a good fish , but because my hands were wet and pruned , the pole slipped and the fish was gone. I lost 4 fish altogether and caught 6 on this line before calling it a day. Wet and cold we packed up. Gaz weighed 15lb John a nice 20 lb of silvers with 1 Crucian and i with 35lb dead. Iwas dissapointed in a way because everything was going great until the snapped elastic , then the rain and bumped fish, between the two i reckon they cost me the 15lb needed to reach my target.
So 3 trips here and all in tne 30 lb mark , i have it nearly sussed and i will do it this year May 18 Too many lost fish.Hi
Went to oakham farm wednesday and fished the top pool, the snaggy bank.
The pegs on this pool are shallow, about 18 inch deep . This, on this pool anyway ( not the others) creates a problem of bolting fish, they take the bait and zoom out into the middle in an nano second. They add to the problem by staying on the surface, even my 16 elastic could not hold these maniac carp. I lost fish one after the other and johnwas experiencing the same.
This along with sunken branches and a rope attached to a pole added to the lost fish tally.
But we perservered and even got the carp feeding inches from the bank. This is where i changed to rod and line and being a bit forgetful and not checking my reel capacity , realised as i hooked a double figure fish , only had about 50 yards of line. Another lost fish
Anyway i still managed a reasonable 45lb , even with 22 lost fish, but john weighed 71lb and lost about 30 fish. So it was not all bad news , even thou it poured down while packing up , all the tackle , me and the car got covered in thick wet clay, ahhh the fun of fishing. |
